Map of Kino's and Pathe's location in the centre of Rotterdam. In comparison with Pathé, Kino is more hidden and harder to find, as it is located in an alleyway instead of the main street.
Kino is located in the Gouvernestraat, which is next to the Nieuwe Binnenweg. You have to know where Kino is to find it, it is a bit hidden in this alley. The street is mostly residential, apart from some hair salons, artist studio's and a bakery. The neighbourhood is very diverse, which is interesting, because Kino's audience is mostly white.
What are the effects of Kino on the mostly residential neighbourhood?

- Noise: Kino visitors are often hanging out in front of the entrance, they discuss the films they just saw.

- Lots of bicycles. Sometimes there is no space left in the bicycle racks. A lot of Kino's visitors are able bodied and come by bike. After the field observations, it became apparent that the bikes were mostly Kino's visitors, as after the last screening finished 95% of the bikes were gone.

- A lot of people come to this area for Kino, this can be a good effect one the businesses that are close to it.

- It is arguable if Kino is a symbol of gentrification. Kino's interior definitely has the design of gentrification, but you don't see it when you're outside the building. The building has also been there since 1909, but has been renovated countless times. Kino has only been around for four years, and before Kino opened in the building, the former interior was very basic and bleak, with fluorescent lights.
