Kino has a very elaborate bar. It looks expensive and it is the heart if the cinema. It is Kino's pride. The cupboards are filled with expensive alcohol in beautiful bottles. The drinks' prices are similar to other bars. You'd think that Pathé's drink prices would be cheaper, but that is also not the case. In Pathé, drinks are sold in plastic bottles, in Kino everything is served in glasses. There is more trust in Kino's audience, and people clean up their own mess. During the field observations, there was a noticeably higher volume of older people at the bar, while younger people went straight to the studios. This could reflect who could afford to order at the bar in the first place. In Pathé there is often popcorn on the floor, in Kino they don't sell popcorn, for that reason, and because popcorn on the floor leads to vermin.

Kino is not only about film but also about discussion, and the bar is where people meet and discuss the film they just saw. In Pathé you can't have drink after you saw the film, you have to leave the building.
